creating voice files for songs

(1/2) > >>

chrissy:
first of thanks for making the registration to this forum accessible, very cool to have the captcha spoken.

I am a blind user, owner of a 4t gen grey scale ipod.
yesterday i downloaded and installed rockbox with auto installer, all fine so far:)
today i wanted to try the voice creation as the spelling stuff is pretty awkward.
i have downloaded the auto creatorfor voice files. and initiated it trying both the speeksx as well as the mp3 format as i am still not sure which one i need to have on my pod.

i am forever grateful for the in depth help files and all but maybe i am too stupid still as nothing seems to work-.
i have tried the settings and have spelling off while all others set to use the created voice files. i did get a 'completion' remark, for lack of a better word, so in other words no error message at no point in the installation.

i am at my wits end, i even had a sighted person look at it to assist and he cannot figure it out either. what could i not have been doing, files are all on the music folders with each title.

is there an idiot prrof manual that is kind of really step by step on what i need to do EXACTLY in what order and at what time, that enables blind user to get each song title spoken in english.

i actually would need german voice but my music is in english mostly anywys and i gave up on trying to install the german voice. its in there but wont work either:(

so any help is appreciated, thanks so much in advance.

take care,
chrissy

Did you try using the automated program to create the .talk clips (in speex format)?

Then, did you name the files and place them correctly as shown at
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/VoiceHowto#Voiced_names_for_directories_and
?

Not sure what "automated program" you're referring to, but Rockbox Utility (http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/RockboxUtility) can create talk clips. Unfortunately Qt (the toolkit Rockbox Utility is built upon) has a few bugs regarding accessibility. To create talk clips you can just use the "Actions" menu (the main window is using a tab widget which has issues with accessibility. Using the actions menu enables you to go reach the same functionality.)

It's possible that the current release has some issues with SAPI voices. If you have trouble just let me know, I can create you a build from svn until we have a new release.

Hi
I used this program called voicebox that is on this site here.
i do not quite understand the stuff about naming the files, when i go inside the music folder it says that all voice clip files are in there, for every song. my understanding from the help files is that when you use this program it does all the placing and naming of voice files for you?
I chose the ipod controls folder when it asked me to choose the directory and all files made it into te music folder that is located inside ipod controls.
i also triple checked to make sure that those clips are activated in the general settings sound menu, onside rockbox.
but even after the third redo i cannot get it to run.
the accesibility issue while installing is not so much the issue here at this time, as i got me a sighted person to look at the files and help, but we still cannot get anywhere.

i am sure it is something minor im just not doing here with settings or whatever, but i thought i had all checked that could possibly go wrong.

the program, rockbox with voice, itself is working, it IS spelling out everything.

but not saying the title, even though i changed settings accordingly:(

take care
chrissy
