Looking for a USB-to-AC97 converter
« on: March 13, 2008, 07:35:50 AM »
Hi everybody!

I am looking for a chip that can be connected to a USB-port and provides the possibility to connect an external AC97 codec. It should finally work like a usual soundcard.

Can anybody help? Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards,

Uwe

Hi,

I'm going to assume you are asking if any of the MP3 players that Rockbox works on could be used like this, seeing as these are the Rockbox forums.

There is the possibility in the future perhaps that some of the targets with USB host could be made to function as an external soundcard, but no-one is working on it right now (that I know of).

Well, I am looking for a chip for this evidentially special task; and due to my inquiries only a mp3 player controller with a special firmware and the possibility to connect an external codec could do it - at least, I was unable to find any other solution so far.

Do you know any mp3 player chip that provides an AC97 interface?

Thank you very much in advance!

Best regards,

Uwe

Not personally, but I haven't looked into it.  However, I reiterate that these are the Rockbox forums, for questions about the Rockbox firmware.

I believe it may be possible in the future to have some of this functionality on those Rockbox players that have a USB host, but I am not certain.
