Sansa e250 question/problem
« on: March 12, 2008, 10:28:04 PM »
I've had my sansa for a while now, and have been very pleased with it.  I just recently bought a Pioneer Premier DEH600UB cd player for my truck.  It has a usb port, and it picks up the player.. but what I'm wondering is it possible to make the charging port play music like the headphone jack. I dont really like scrolling with my cd player and I just want to be able to use the mp3 player.  But I like the fact that it charges it when its plugged into the USB.

So basically I want to know can you make the charging port ( where you connect the usb cable ) capable to be the output of the music. I'm trying to limit the number of cords I have running all over the place...

Not unless the your CD player supports it, which seems really unlikely.  You'll probably need to use the headphone jack or line out.

And even if it did, you'd still have to write code to do it.

I dont really want to use the line out, because that doesn't charge it. I want it to be like the ipod where you can leave it connected, and it turns on and off with the cd player and it charges/plays through the same port.

Well, do some research, and if (a big if) it supports the Sansa, you could code it.

Otherwise, I have no other advice than to deal with it.

What happens if you boot the original Sansa firmware then connect it to the CD player?

I think where the confusion lies is in how many CD players use the iPod dock connector.  The connector on the bottom of the iPod (and Sansa) is not just USB.

This CD deck is using the Sansa as a generic UMS device and providing power, no custom Rockbox code is required, he simply wants to charge via USB and line-in the audio with only one cable.

If you look at the player's port you'll see there are twenty-some pins.  If you can find a source for Sansa dock-connectors (rumor is a slightly modified iPod one fits) and a pin-out you could construct a custom cable which is USB power and a line-out, and only splits the two in the last six inches so you dont have either a mess of cables or the hassle of changing volume so your headphone jack is at line-level.

If i boot in the original firmware I can scroll through with the cd player, but I can't use the mp3 player to scroll which is really aggrivating. Its quite hard to drive and scroll through 300 folders.

Could it be that the CD player is using MTP to access the Sansa's storage?

I know little of these things, but that might make sense, if I haven't got my master/slave stuff inverted...

It's either one or the other - it can't be both.
