skipping tracks and wrong #'s
« on: March 10, 2008, 11:20:04 AM »
running toshiba gigabeat f-40

issue 1:
i am playing albums and it sometimes skips track 3.   this has happened for several albums so far (but not all)

issue 2:
when i start up, it says "2 of 14" (as the track number) when it is in fact the first track.  skipping to the next track, it still says "2 of 14" and if i skip back it will then say "1 of 14".  also, when i have skipped forward and then back, when i get to the last track, the corver art no longer shows.  (when i don't skip, the cover art shows fine for the last track.)

are these known issues?
do i just need an updated build?
thx - dan

What version of rockbox are you running?  We do ask that you check with the latest current build before reporting problems in case they have been fixed.  I seem to remember at least issue 1 being fixed recently.

i just scrolled down and saw a discussion regarding the track #3 problem (issue 1).  I will look some more about the other.

Yes, that is 3.5 or so weeks old.  Please retry with an up-to-date build.  Furthermore, I assume that you are testing with an official build, correct?

Download from here: http://build.rockbox.org/

A new build is produced every time the source is changed, which is usually many times per day (you can follow the changes on the front page).

i am going to update the player this weekend  (got some new music for it at home)

how do i know if the build supports album art resize (all my art is 200 x 200)?

or do i need to have some additional plugin?

also- where do i find the tag list for the WPS -- I have one that i am using right now but just want to tweak one thing (remove artist and just have song on the next selection bar)

thanks, dan

The current build supports Album Art but not on-the-fly resizing.  There is a patch to add album art resizing, but to add that you need to patch the source code then compile rockbox.  Also note that if you patch the build it becomes unsupported.

See www.rockbox.org/wiki/AlbumArt and www.rockbox.org/wiki/CustomWps for your other questions.

so i have to find a custom build *or* a WPS that uses 200 x 200 artwork -- is that right?  where do i find custom builds?  or do i need to download build tools and patch it myself?

The Unsupported Builds forum should be fairly noticeable on the main forum page.

You will need to set up a build environment if you want to compile your own.  You can find plenty of information on this in the wiki.  Try the SimpleGuideToCompiling wiki page as a starting point.

Otherwise you can look for a program that will batch resize your album art.  I believe you will find some options on the AlbumArt wiki page.

Or you could use a batch processing program to resize your album art to that used by the WPS you want.

To learn about compiling see here:  http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SimpleGuideToCompiling

To learn about patching see here:  http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WorkingWithPatches

You can see what custom builds are available in the unsupported builds forum.

If resizing your album art is your final decision (and if you ask me I think it would be a good decision in this case, that is, resizing your AA for Rockbox instead of modifying rockbox for your AA ;)), I've used Irfanview (freeware) for batch bmp resizing & converting, and it works great.
