Album art viewer function for jpeg? just an idea.
(1/1)
Scuzzo:
hello, just wanted to say i really dig the Rockbox thing, have really crawled in side the sound parameters with this. but when i was just chilling and listening to some tunes. i got to wondering,
would it be possible to build a utility that would associate the album art of the Now Playing song, and load the jpeg file into the viewer so that when you were listening to the tune you could just go submenu. Album Art View or what ever and see the cover art in the jpeg viewer. instead of having to browse to the art from the file menu. Just an idea really, im not even sure how would would implement it.
well, thanks for the great work on the rockbox, looking foward to see what
other new features are for instore.
ok question, i may be looking for a new HDD mp3 player to supplement my flash player , can anyone suggest a the best option for a 20gb player that supports rockbox.. i have been told that iRiver is the best option.
welp rock on uhmm box?
peace.

The best implementation of this would be to put JPEG support into the rockbox core (to which some are opposed), and then have the WPS support JPEG as well as BMP album art.
Strife89:
JPEG drops quality from an already tiny image. Not necessarily noticeably, but still.....
I'd prefer a plugin that can convert pictures from multiple file types (and picture sizes).
Walrus:
With the tiny screens of most mp3 players, image quality isn't all that important, so .jpg support would be awesome. You're not going to be looking at Van Gogh paintings, just tiny reproductions of album covers. But I'm coming at this from a practical user viewpoint, not that of a programmer. But it would be nice to finally be able to use one of those album art WPS screens without having to manually find/create .bmp images of every album in my database.

The wiki contains some useful advice on automating the process of collating album art and converting it to the .bmp format Rocbox needs:
