Bookmarks resuming wrong mp3 file

(1/1)

major4579:
I'm running Rockbox r16516-080304 on a Sansa e250.

I listen mainly to podcasts and follow a large number of different podcasts. I have created a few folders on my Sansa to hold the podcasts ("Talk", "Tech", etc.). I download new podcasts to these folders - each folder contains a number of different podcasts and that can change daily.

(Note: Using a seperate folder for each podcast doesn't change the problem.)

Here's my problem - it appears that Bookmarks are stored assuming that the number of files (or tracks if you want) are constant within a folder, so a Bookmark will refer to, say, 10:30 minutes in on the 4th file (track) in the folder. Unfortunately, podcasts files are not static tracks, they get deleted and added. Because of this a Bookmark will resume playing the 4th file (track) when the actual mp3 is now the 5th or 6th.

I haven't found anything in the forums that addresses this. So here are my questions:

1) Is this correct, i.e., do I understand how the bookmarks work?
2) Is there another feature that would work better for me (I tried Databases, but that didn't for me)?
3) How do others deal with this?

BTW, this issue has been there for months through numerous updates of Rockbox.

Thanks,
John

If you play the files from the directory, without explicitly creating a playlist then no, Rockbox does not assume the number of files remain constant. Or rather, it should not; it tries to deal with this case, by only resuming the file with the right name, but there could be a bug there...

If you first create (and perhaps subsequently modifies) a playlist for the folder, then it will resume at the specified playlist index, regardless of what it contains.

So, how do you play the files? Just select them in the file browser, or do you create/update a playlist first?

I only delete files from a PC, when loading new files (and not needing to resume any file in the directory in question), so I've never experienced any problems.

Lear,

I never create playlists, I always pick the file from the 'file browser'.

MarcGuay,

Thats it! Guess I'll have to live with it until it gets fixed...

Thanks,
John
