Database with ALAC, and skipped playback
« on: March 05, 2008, 09:32:46 PM »
Hi, I just installed latest build 4 March 2008 (CMIIW v16511), and have quite a few problem.

Firstly, the only sound effect I used is Crossfeed, which is the reason I rockbox'ed my ipod 5.5g 30gb.

Ok, here are my problems with rockbox:
- My ALAC files is not showing in Database Browser, while it shown in OF & iTunes & foobar2000.
- All my files are properly tagged in iTunes (al least track name), but rockbox show my files as untagged. Foobar2000 shows tag too...
- When playing a song, sometimes it does not finish the song, but skipped to another.
- Error: Error Updating Playlist

Thx.

What is "CMIIW" supposed to mean?

As for your files, did you tag them yourself in iTunes? iTunes has been known to not actually tag files, but just store their data in a database. Have you verified the tags in something other than Apple software?

As well, being March 5th now, any build from March 4th is definitely not the one provided at the Current Build link.

CMIIW = Correct Me If I'm Wrong

I just downloaded current build of Rockbox two days ago.
And yes, I see my files full tagged in foobar2000.
Thx.

Yes, "two days ago" is not current. The current build is updated every time a change is made to the source, meaning that two day ago is very much not current.

Ok, I'll try today current build.
And to make it safe, I will delete .rockbox directory, and install from scratch along with fonts.

If the problem persists, I'll post again here.
Thx.

Let us know.   :)

But please type out the word "thanks" instead of writing slang (thx).  Standard English words have a much better chance of being properly spoken by a screen reader or translated by translation software.

Okay, I've downloaded current build r16536-080306.
The problem with ALAC persists, but I have found the culprit.

Rockbox won't recognize ALAC created by dbPowerAmp, but will recognize if converted using iTunes.

So, this can be submitted to Bug Report tracker.
Thanks.

That may well be because dbPowerAmp creates non-standard or broken ALAC files, not because Rockbox is mis-handling them.

It will probably only get submitted if you do it.
And, as above, you need to confirm if it is Rockbox or dbPowerAmp at fault before a Flyspray entry is raised.

It could be that dbPowerAmp doesn't create so called streamable files (where the metadata is located before the audio data). Rockbox currently only support streamable MP4 files.

If you have Foobar2000 around, you can try the function "Optimize MP4 Layout" on the file to see if that helps.

Both iTunes and iPod Original Firmware can play ALAC created by dbPowerAmp.

I had tried to submit it to flyspray, but it seems my user profile does not have privilege to do that.

Thanks, I'll try Foobar's Optimize MP4.

In the mean time, I also have encountered new error (intermittent, not only one time):
- when I play FLAC, and do often skipping track, rockbox freeze and show: Undefined instructions at 022B992C (0)
- when I play mp3 in playlist to break-in my headphone, rockbox also freeze but I could not seen the error message because lcd is off.
- then I restart my ipod, all setting is lost. I re-set theme&crossfeed, shutdown rockbox normally and start it, again all setting is lost.

I hope I can help by submitting bug report to flyspray, but I don't have privilege right now, so please submit it for me.
Thank you very much.

UPDATE:
After chkdsk /f my ipod, it turns out rockbox config file is corrupted.
Maybe because rockbox freeze when writing to disc.
Thanks.

The forum login and the flyspray login are not the same.  You need to sign up for flyspray.

Thanks, I'll register to FlySpray now.
I really hope I can help Rockbox crew.

And about problem with ALAC, after using Optimize MP4 Layout in Foobar2k, rockbox now can read and play ALAC.
Thanks for your help.
