e250 database won't initialize

(1/2) > >>

Ctrl-Alt-Elite:
When i go to build the database, it gets to "...18 found" and wont proceed. i can leave it until its impressive battery life runs out, and i will never get access to the database.

any ideas would be appreciated.

MarcGuay:
1)  Delete the .tcd files from your .rockbox folder.
2)  Reboot the Sansa.  Hold the select button (long-select) on Database in the main menu.
3)  Select Initialize Database.
4)  Wait a minute.
5)  Reboot.

If that doesn't do the trick:

1) What kind of files are you using?
2) What kind of tags are you using?
3) Is there embedded album art in any of your files?

exploration of the drive suggests to me that my problem is but a symptom of a greater problem, the likes of which i couldn't begin to understand, in my noobishness.

most of the folders in my \music directory won't open or delete because they are "corrupted and unreadable". also, it seems to have 2 iterations of each folder (2 folders named "Beck", "Opeth", so on), both unreadable. also, the "Angra" folders are openable, and each contain only a file named PPOS(followed by a character the reply box doesnt like).

safetydan:
Yeah you're going to want to run either chkdsk or scandisk on that drive to try and fix the filesystem. Sounds like it's corrupted very badly.

Have you been safely disconnecting/unmounting your e250 before unplugging it?

your question is lost on me, which likely does not speak well for the condition of the player.
