RockBox Utility
« on: March 05, 2008, 05:56:34 PM »
Ok, i used rock box once before. It sapped my battery, and i uninstalled it, bootloader and all.  I use rockbox utility to try and reinstall, because i put a new battery in, turns out it was the battery not rock box. And when it installs the bootloader, it downloads rockbox.zip, and stops responding when it goes to extract it. I went and downloaded an older version of the utility and it did the same thing.
FYI: I am using a 5.5g Ipod Video (80 Gb Hard drive)

Are you running RbUtil as a user with admin rights?

If that's not the problem, you could try using the "Manual Installation" method documented in the manual.

I don't think you can brick the iPod using ipodpatcher. I think the only known way to brick an iPod is to interrupt it during an Apple firmware update. Rockbox doesn't write to the same place the Apple update does, so there's no risk when installing Rockbox.

I don't know how RbUtil works, but why not try it, and if it doesn't work, just install them manually (i.e. unzip them into the root of your player) ?

ugh... the sound of work... lol haha, im playing, installing themes is EASY... its just the fonts and everything that i want.

OffTopic; I also want to put jBuild on top of rockbox, so i can use all of his utterly awesome themes, but whenever i would get as far to do that, it would say
Can not identify pArtition, connect usb and fix this

jBuild is extremely out of date. It's also not our software, and not supported here. If you have problems with it, please contact the provider of it.

A lot of the patches that themes used to rely on have been committed to SVN, so the themes you're interested in might actually work with the official build now, or easily be converted to work.

It's against the forum rules to
1. post another reply if no-one else has replied after you. Use the "modify" button instead.
2. use non-words like "nvm". Rockbox has blind and visually impaired users, and writing like this will end up as garbage when spoken by their screen readers.
