Ipod video not connecting to computer

I have an ipod video 30GB running rockbox. its been working fine for a few months but now whenever i plug it into the computer, the disk mode screen comes up but it immediately says "ok to disconnect" and the computer doesn't recognize it. I have also tried booting the apple firmware and have gotten the same results. I have tried connecting my ipod to 2 different computers one running xp and one running vista with the same results. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

i tried a different cable with no success. Is there anything else i could try?

Try using the USB ports in the back of the computer.  What are you doing differently now from a few months ago?

I plugged it into the back of the computer and it still wont work. As far as i know i'm not doing anything differently. Same computer, same ipod, same usb port.

Same version of Rockbox?

no i updated it and it worked with the new version for a few days before it stopped connecting to the computer. currently i'm running rockbox version r16452-080228

The version of Rockbox should be irrelevant, since you're in Apple disk mode.

Does your computer work fine with other mass storage devices over usb? I can remember I once had a driver issue on my computer which made usb almost unusable.

Also, have you tried a different computer?

my computer's usb ports work fine. i have used another computer and have run into the same issue.

Just a shot in the dark here (I don't own an iPod), but do you have iTunes installed?  If so, try this:

Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use

   1. Open iTunes
   2. Connect your iPod to your computer and wait for it to appear in iTunes.
   3. Select your iPod in the Source pane under the Devices section to display your iPod preferences in the main library window.
   4. Click the Summary tab in the main iTunes window.
   5. Click the Manually manage music button. Changing from automatic updating to manual puts a check mark by Enable disk use.
   6. Click OK in the message window.
   7. Click Apply in the iPod preferences section of the iTunes window.

It might be time to go searching around the Apple website for information then.  From what I understand of it, disk mode has nothing to do with Rockbox so if that isn't working, the problem lies elsewhere.
