4G Grayscale Ipod now has ATA Error: -1

Yesterday i turned on my 4G grayscale Ipod to be greeted by weird playlist related errors when I tried to queue up some music. So I figured I may need to update to the latest daily, so I saved my themes and such and deleted everything else and moved the files and folders from the daily build zip file into the .rockbox folder.

I ejected the ipod, then restarted it and was NOW greeted to super long loading Rockbox screen, then finally "ATA Error: -1"

I thought, oh crap, my hd is dead! So I restarted it again, this time loading into the Apple firmware, that worked fine (no music loaded there to test, but at least it loaded into the Apple Ipod firmware/os). Ok, next thing to try is making sure I can access the files on the hd of the ipod. Yup, files accessible, copy/move/delete-able and able to play the music off of that hd while it is connected to my computer. Next I tried repairing the drive from Disk utility on my mac. It didn't find any errors/problems.

So I'm left with a "what's next to try?". I read somewhere that other ATA Error codes were related to bloated batteries (not for the ipod but in some of the iriver players), so I popped her open and checked and the battery is fine.

I'm really at a loss here, and would definitely appreciate any help/suggestions.

Thanks.

An update.. I was trying to find an older build that i know worked for sure, so I found it and completely erased the .rockbox folder and used that old version and boom it worked just fine. You can imagine my excitement that it still works. :)

So to those of you with this odd error, you may be best to just wipe the entire  .rockbox folder and copy over an older confirmed working version or possibly a  fresh/new daily build but making sure to wipe the entire .rockbox folder instead of selectively deleting folders/files.

I have the same problem as you. Which build works with you? Does it have the new battery life enhancements?

Thanks

antony, i'm using the 011008 build right now, but was about to try yesterday's daily. i'm definitely wanting charging/battery enhancment features. right now it doesn't seem to charge over USB unless that is a setting that i forgot to change. Anyway, I'll let you know how the latest daily install goes.

When reporting things like this, you REALLY ought to mention that you've physically modified your hard disk. You mentioned in another thread you have a CF card in your iPod. As well, you really shouldn't post multiple messages with the same question in different places. Or post more than once when nobody has responded (use the modify button in stead). In fact, I'd strongly recommend you go and re-read the guidelines, as you seem to have missed several of them.
