Need help with playback
« on: March 03, 2008, 09:53:20 PM »
I am new to Rockbox and have it installed on my 5.5 generation ipod video.  I love it so far, but I have an issue that is driving me crazy.  I only use the file tree system for navigating and playing files (I don't use the database function).  My music is arranged in directories such as: Genre/Artist/Album/Song File.

My issue is that if I play a song file from an album directory, I cannot play it again unless I shut off the player.  It seems to be a particular problem with the last song in a directory.  If I play it and then go to play it again, it simply won't play.  I think it must have to do with how Rockbox uses playlists and how I have it configured.  I'm guessing it's an easy fix, but I'm stumped.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like a bug.

Which revision of Rockbox does this occur on ?

(To find this out go to System -> Rockbox Info, and read the information next to "Version").

Godeater:

I have version r16361-080220.

I've also noticed that if I go into a directory (album), a lot of times the last song in the directory won't play.  When I click on it, the drive spins up and it seems like all is well, but within a second or two the stop signal appears on the screen and the song won't play.  It's really frustrating.  Any help would really be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Please be using a current version. There have been many playback changes since then.

Sorry for the newbie question, but where do I find the most current version.  Also, how do I go about deleting the copy on my player now and reinstalling the new version.  Is there a way to do that without losing all of my settings, theme, fonts, etc.?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The current version is at the current version link on the left. You just install it just like you installed Rockbox previously (no need to reinstall the bootloader). It will overwrite all necessary parts of the previous build you have on, and leave your settings etc alone.

Reinstalling can be done by way of RBUtil, or you can simply follow the manual installation instructions in the manual.

To answer your other question, installing the current build will not overwrite your settings, themes, etc.
