iHP-140 reset while updating... CRASH
« on: March 02, 2008, 05:30:14 PM »
Thanks for listening, I was directed here with my question.  Attempting to update the firmware on my iHP-140, it appeared to freeze on the "UPDATING! DON'T TOUCH" screen, and after waiting about 90 minutes, I decided the unit needed to be reset.  Now it only loads the iRiver logo upon resetting, and will not turn off/ do anything at the prompt of a button.  Thoughts?  Options?  Garbage?

Resetting on that screen pretty much guarantees an incomplete flash, which is only recoverable with special hardware if that's what happened. Though if it spent 90 minutes updating, something was wrong already. Your player is unlikely to be recoverable without special tools.

You were flashing, so the problem is in your flash.

I assume that you can't boot rockbox can you?
You tried to flash an iriver official firmware or a patched one with rockbox?
If you can boot to rockbox you could flash your unit with a Rockbox only bootloader.
Then you could reflash the OF, but I don't see a reason to.

Summarizing, if you can't start Rockbox, or you can't get the original firmware  at the point where you can upgrade again then sadly you should forget it.

As Llorean said the unit is ruined, it can be brought to life again only by special equipment. :(
