Highest character (goes up most) and lowest character (goes down most)?

Hi, does anybody know which character goes up the most in its little box? Which one goes down the most in its little box?

Also, if you put the "up-the-most" character right below the "down-the-most" character, will there be any space in between the two? If so, how many pixels?

If the answer to any of these questions varies from font to font,  I am using helveticaR14 (e.g. default font for cabbieV2, the default WPS for the GigabeatF).

Better yet, can somebody show me a 240x320 image with grids to show where each text line begins and the next one ends for HelveticaR14? If you do this, please explain the grid (e.g. is the border line part of the row above it or the row below?).

I don't know the answer, but in the "teach a man to fish" tradition, here's how I'd find out:

Make a special WPS with one of each character, repeated, over and over.  The WPS won't word wrap, so you'll need to do some of that yourself, but that shouldn't be too hard.  Fill the screen with them.

Then, look  Find the one that goes the highest, and the one that goes the lowest, and put them together and look to see if they touch.

Put a background image that goes from white to gray every 5 pixels down, and you should be able to see how much vertical space the letters take.
