PictureFlow problem Iriver H320
« on: March 01, 2008, 11:06:53 AM »
Hey.

I have a problem with the PictureFlow plugin in my Iriver H320.
Each time I'm trying to use it, it gets stuck in the "Preparing album artwork" screen.
What should I do?

Thx.

Hey again.
As you said I gave it time, but the proses bar hasn't moved at all!
Is it stuck? or it's normal?

It's probably not normal that it stays stuck completely. To speed up (and hopefully unstuck) the process you could enable dircache.

Really? I have at least 2000 songs on my gigabeat and it takes a whole 30 seconds to prepare the album art. Something must be wrong with your setup.

Erase the contents of .rockbox/rocks/pictureflow/ and try to run it again.

You're comparing a third of the songs on a DAP that's over three times as powerful as the iPod. Not precisely like for like is it ?

Yea but such a massive difference? 30 seconds vs 45 minutes.

You have no idea how slow the iPod is. It takes an AGE to do the same thing that takes the Gigabeat a few seconds to do...

Basically, the iPod is 1/4 the speed of the Gigabeat. But this isn't practical, since far from all the speed is being dedicated to updating, since some of it goes to drawing the screen, and doing other usual tasks. So you probably have something closer to an 6:1 or 7:1 ratio in the speeds simply in terms of MHZ. Then you've got 3 times as many songs. Just that means 10-20 minutes is a reasonable expectation on the iPod. And that's not taking into account that pure MHZ isn't the most reliable definition of speed. Add into that, "6000 songs" and "2000 songs" doesn't tell us the actual ratio of albums and images we're working with, and I'd say there's plenty of elbow room. :)

There is also the fact that the iPod 80 GB has very slow disk access.

That's true, but I never would have thought that's that much of a difference. I guess I'm wrong again, oh well, at least I learned something. :)
