Sansa e250 - PC can't read in Rockbox, original fw, or recovery mode

what do i do? i don't think it's bricked, cuz doesn't that mean i can't get back to the original firmware? i can, but everytime i plug it into the computer, it charges but doesn't read the player. i'm using Windows XP, and i don't have Linux. i was thinking maybe i can put the original fw on my microSD card, boot my device under Rockbox, cut/paste PP5022.mi4 file into root directory, and reboot. but i'm afraid that it won't work, and i'll have a more pointless mp3 player. i mean, i could just get music on through the microSD card, but if i can actually fix it, that would be great.

We don't know what you did. You didn't describe exactly what you did, how you did it, or even the problem in general. We're not psychics, and simply can't guess what the problem is.

Now tell us EXACTLY what the problem is. What did you do? What firmware version are you using? Did you try taking any steps to fix your Sansa? Give details!

um, let's see. well, last weekend i plugged my Sansa e250 into my PC to put music on it. i have the lastest firmware on it. everything was fine. then, last night, i went to connect my device to the PC, and it wouldn't read it. it only charges. i tried everything in my power to fix it. i tried to put it in recovery mode. it will go in, but even then the PC won't read it. the problem - my PC can't read my device. at all. whatsoever. i'm using cpchan's build, so i posted in there as well, in case it is due to his build. but i use his and the official, so i wasn't sure. as for how it happened - i don't know. it just happened.

Well, then lock this thread. You're supposed to ask for unofficial build help ONLY in the appropriate thread for the build in the "Unsupported Builds" section of the forum.

I'm still somewhat unclear as to what you have done.  Please type clear sentences for everything you did, in order, what error messages (if any) appeared, ...

Also, please try to use capital letters and slightly more punctuation.  I find your posts really hard to read, and I'd rather only try to decipher your problem and not the post as well.

As I think you have said that you have the problem both with an official and unoffical build, for the time being we can continue here.  Therefore I have unlocked the thread again.

OK. So, my problem is that my PC can't read my Sansa e250. It doesn't matter if I'm in the Rockbox FW, Sansa FW, or Recovery Mode. My device comes up as 'Unknown Device' on my PC. And the USB icon thing (device connected message) doesn't come up on my device. The PC just charges it.

And what happened to get to this point?  What did you do, exactly?

I'm not sure. One day it works, the next it doesn't. And I don't remember anything major happening to the device.

So rockbox was installed and working fine, then you shut down, then on next turn on it won't connect to USB?

What happens if you insert the USB cable when the player is turned off?

Right. When I plug in the USB when off - boot load stuff shows up, then the last thing that shows up is 'Disabling Database Rebuild' and the original fw comes up. But, the PC still doesn't read my player.

Any chance you could try with another PC?

What OS do you use?

If recovery mode isn't connecting, nor is OF, then odds are it's an issue with the cable or USB port itself.
