E250 not recognized by RBUtility or BootLoader
« on: February 28, 2008, 03:44:56 PM »
Hi all,

I just got an E250 (V1) and am trying to install RockBox on it.  I switched it to MSC mode and plugged it in.  It shows up as drive G: in XP.  I tried to use the Rockbox Utility (latest version) to do a Complete Install, but it can't find it.  I tried to tell it that it was a Sansa E200 on Drive G, but that still didn't work.

After trying for an hour, I decided to try it manually.  I have the rockbox.zip files extracted to the player, along with the font files.  No problem there.  I was just on the step of installing the BootLoader and it can't find the player either.

I RTFM but only get to the part where it says "If all has gone well..."

Not sure what else to try.  Maybe a different USB port?

Thanks for any help you may provide,

Mr. Sly

So it even doesn't get detected (by using the "autodetect" button in the configuration dialog)?

I can remember that some people had issues with broken cables and a hub between PC and player, but that was on Ipods. No idea if something appeared on a sansa as well.

Are you 100% sure it's a V1? What firmware version does the original firmware report?

Very interesting...  I unplugged it and plugged it back in, still not working.  I did that about 5 more times...  Suddenly it works, RB installed perfectly.

The cable was working just fine, I could get to the player with XP Explorer the whole time.  Maybe just a USB thing on my computer.

I don't know what to say, but thanks for the "help".   :)

Go to Settings->Info on the OF and tell us what version it says the firmware is.

I'm not the original poster, but I am having the same issue.
I just picked up this v1 e260, version 01.02.18A. It is in MSC mode, and is not seen by the autodetect or manual bootloader install program.

This is in Win XP at the moment, though I can try Linux in a day or so.

Have you tried a different USB port? And, if you could also try a different computer.

Excellent! I just tried a different port on the same system, and it worked. I'm in...

  Thanks,

I just thought I'd add that I had the same problem as these guy but when I tried it in Linux it worked no problem. Didn't try the other port trick. My linux box is a separate computer.

Just posting this in case someone else has the same problem and this is of some help

Same problem. Firmware 01.03.18A

Strangely moving the USB port worked.... so yea that seems to be a strong cause thus far.

Trying a different USB port and/or computer is one of the best solutions known right now for this problem.
