USB Support
« on: February 24, 2008, 03:15:55 PM »
Now, I am very curious as to how this is progressing, seeing as this will enable me to remove all dependency on the OF, so I have a few questions:

1) Charging - If file support gets finished, will that affect charging? And, is there work progressing on getting rockbox to allow full charging power (or does it already?)?
2) File transfer - I understand that USB 1.1 speed works, so is all that is left to do is get USB 2.0 speed working without errors?

Thanks!

Nope, but theres a patch on the tracker for charging.  If the USB support goes in soon, I'll probably take a look at testing it to see if the charging patch is safe to use (won't kill batteries or anything).

I think both work pretty well at this point, but theres still a lot of bugs to be worked out, so you use it at your own risk.

I'm guessing you probably got that "USB 1.1" speed thing from the post / wiki page I made on Friday. It was of course Murphy's Law that just as I'd more or less finished writing that page that gevaerts decided to have a breakthrough and work out what was wrong with USB 2.0, and get that working as well ;)

Just noticed this on the MajorChanges page:

2008-02-11: Major USB stack improvements. File transfer is now supported.

Seems a little misleading if it's still a work-in-progress, especially given the common usage of "supported"... Perhaps I've missed something?

Good question, one I've just posed to others in IRC...

Taken care of - it's been removed from MajorChanges, and will only re-appear when it's in a state worth announcing to the unwashed masses :D

And I thought people using dirty, patched-up versions of Rockbox were the unwashed ones... :)

Do you know if Gevaerts is aware that currently when you plug in the device (e200 + r16416) it locks up the unit?  Seems like something that should be avoided if possible for the sake of not having to tell people "just keep holding the power button, it'll reboot, trust me".

He's not aware of it unless someone's told him.

He was working on a problem that caused Vista installs to Blue screen when a Rockbox USB unit was plugged into them earlier. We think he should leave it as an option :)

Yes he should. Seriously...  For demonstration and funny purposes to show how unstable Vista is.
