I have the Iriver H10. How do I sync my files?

We may need someone with more expertise on this particular target.  I do not see how an accessory can get around the lack of USB code for the PortalPlayer targets in SVN.

And just to clarify, you get to the same screen whether you insert the plug with Rockbox running or boot the unit while the cable is connected?  Are you sure it's a Rockbox screen that you're seeing?

Yes (I have just confirmed both), and unmistakably yes.

The cradle I have is this one. The H10 I have is the US 20GB (MTP) model. The cradle uses a standard USB-to-mini-USB cable, while a direct connection to the iRiver uses a proprietary cable. At this point, I can't think of any other explanation for why my set-up works.

Chronon:
That's fine.  I would expect that the accessory houses a USB hub that your unit connects to.  I will wait for someone who has more experience with this target to shed some light on this, since at the moment I'm still mystified as to how Rockbox can be establishing a USB connection (cradle or no).

I've never seen a H10 up close, but I do know something about the usb stack and I can't see a way for this to happen either.

It is possible in some very special circumstances for the disks to appear on the OS, but they should then not be accessible, and as soon as the USB connect screen appears the player should reboot.

Lemmy Caution: can you confirm whether or not you can actually access the disk and copy files ?

Yep, been copying like it was my birthday. Using iTunes Agent to sync from iTunes, even. Drag and drop, etc. No problems.

Please don't tell my iRiver that it's not supposed to work. As the old joke goes, "we need the eggs."

Unfortunately, that's what I'm going to do. It's not supposed to work. The problem is that there are still some bugs left that could in some circumstances corrupt data, so it's not safe yet to enable it by default.

By now we found the bug that caused USB to be enabled on H10, so it's going to be fixed soon. If you really want to keep using native rockbox USB, you basically have two options : keep the current build, or compile yourself (or find someone else who can compile for you). We hope to be able to enable it soon, but unfortunately solutions for the remaining problems are hard to find.

If there's enough demand I might be persuaded to provide an unofficial build now and then.
