I have the Iriver H10. How do I sync my files?

Okay, so I finally got rockbox installed. Aside from the touchstrip not functioning quite right, my player is 3 times the player it was. So much better that I can't wait till rokbox comes out for the clix 2 (I am not keeping the H10). The only real problem is that when I boot it up using rockbox, my computer does not recognize it. It will say "new hardware found" and try find and install the device drivers. It doesn't find any though, and the only way I can  I can use it like I normally do, is to boot up in the original firmware. Is that the only way it is going to work?

1)  For now there is no usb stack for portalplayer targets, use the OF to transfer files.  This is being worked on however.

2)  Please read the posting in this forum stickies before posting.  I have just moved two of your threads out of the installation forum, and deleted a post from a development thread in the New Ports forum that was irrelevant.

Turn off your player.  All the way off.  You may want to either remove the battery or put a pin in the reset hole.
Then press the power button down and the right "select" button down at the same time.  This puts it into
"Emergency Connection" mode.  Windows then reconizes it and you can put files and music onto the H10

You're right, I couldn't find it either.  I added a note to the "Missing Features" area of the iriver H10 port page.

Also, it's not quite correct. After experimenting with it for a few hours (that I can ill-afford - procrastination, thy name is gadget) it is not necessary to force the H10 20gig into UMS mode once Rockbox is installed.

What you may need to do is connect the H10 and make sure that the Music folder (and all others) are unhidden. Many of the sync tools I've found don't like the by-default hidden file structure for data/music of the iRiver. If you reboot to OF, though, it may return it the files/folders to hidden status.

Any folder-sync software should work once you have that sorted out, whether or not it uses a music-player as an interface. What would be nice would be incremental database updates - although it may be in there and I can't find it yet.

Meaning that I connect the H10 20g via USB to my Windows XP system and it is recognized as an external USB hard drive, no need for any kibitzing, no problem. Which means that the original user's problem is probably something to do with his local system. Unless I'm misunderstanding, which is quite possible. I haven't had lunch.

Do you mean while Rockbox is running or from the Off state?

While Rockbox is running, as well as if I boot it when connected. I get the nicely-rendered little USB-plug icon. (Well-done, that one!)

Okay, so either a) I'm a big moron and I've misunderstood something, b) you're running a custom build that has the work-in-progress USB enabled, c) the official build has it enabled and nobody threw a party, or...?

Lemmy Caution, please be aware that it's against the forum guidelines to post regarding a custom build in the main forums.  Are you using a current build?  What revision number is it?

Not a custom build at all, but I think I understand why it's working:

I'm using the iRiver cradle. I've been using the cradle for so long, I'd forgotten that it is an accessory.

On edit: it's r16727 as of this writing.

Hmmm.  Curiouser and curiouser.   

We may need someone with more expertise on this particular target.  I do not see how an accessory can get around the lack of _enabled_ USB code for the PortalPlayer targets in SVN. 

And just to clarify, you get to the same screen whether you insert the plug with Rockbox running or boot the unit while the cable is connected?  Are you sure it's a Rockbox screen that you're seeing?
