Thanks for the help anyway :)

mine's doing the same thing as this one, though ive been trying troughout the day to reset it and nothing's working.
am i going to have to wait for mine to randomly work or is this pointless? i dont really have money for another player so help would be very greatly apprecated.

Follow febs instructions to reset it.

Apparently, it can take over a minute of holding the buttons for the ipod to reset, so keep holding it for a while.

If it definitely is not turning on, it may be a hardware problem, most likely a dead battery, which can be replaced cheaply at many online stores, or by Apple themselves if you want to get extremely ripped off.

My Ipod has the same problem. I installed Rockbox on my 4th gen grayscale ipod and the next day it died, not sure if theres a connection there...

I were using the ipod then all of a sudden the battery sign came up for a second then it died. I thought it was strange as it had a nearly full charge - anyway I plugged it into my car charger and it nothing happened.. when I got home I left it plugged into the wall charger for the whole night, still dead. Also nothing happens when I plug it into my PC either.

I have tried the hold on off / menu + select combo many times but no response, it seems nothing I do is going to make my ipod turn on :(

wow lol nvm i'm not even going to say what just happened when i posted that...  :P
