Yes, it can charge via USB.  I'll take a look at the DC connector when I have a chance.  I didn't use it much and when I did it was via the dock, so I don't remember specifically what it is.

I settled on a Gigabeat F40 and got it today off Craigslist for $75. It was used only once and was in great condition. Good deal.

I'm wondering if "LONG A" will ever do anything?
