ipod video same as gen 5.5?

Hey guys,
I wasn't sure where to post this, but I'm looking to buy an ipod and definately want to install rockbox.  My question is, is the Ipod Video the same as Generation 5.5?  Or are they two totally different animals?  Any and all info on this would be greatly apprciated.

so can rockbox be installed on a 5.5g ipod?  That was my main question.  Also, can I use 3rd party applications to transfer mp3/video to a rockbox'ed ipod instead of using itunes?  Sorry for being a pain..

Rockbox will definitely run on 5.5G iPods. I'm running it on mine as we speak.

You can use iTunes, Songbird, Gtkpod, Amarok... whatever your heart desires.

Hell, you can even just copy the files to the iPod, just like an external hard drive.

You can copy and paste, or use any other method you like to get music on.

Any iPod will work except the Classic, 2nd and 3rd Gen Nano, and and any gen shuffle.

Based on what?  We have already listed which it does and doesn't run on, but other than that it depends what you want to do.  For instance if you want to watch video in rockbox, the 5G is a bad choice owing to the large screen size relative to processor speed (I know you can use the OF, but these things need to be pointed out).

I belive the 60GB was G5 and the 80GB was G5.5
i don't know about the 30GBs

The ipod video, known as the 5G works with rockbox (30gb and 60gb) along with the enhanced video 5.5G (30gb and 80gb)(The 30gb with a search function is 5.5G). They both work with Rockbox. The new classic 6G (80gb and 160gb) which looks like a video doesnt work with rockbox.
