have to eject memory card for RB to boot
« on: February 20, 2008, 02:23:10 PM »
I hoping someone can help me resolve an issue I'm having with RB on an e250. I'm using a 4GB MicroSDHC and RB won't boot with it plugged in. I have to eject the card, boot into RB and then plug the card back in. RB will use the card after this procedure. I dont need to do this win a 2GB card.

Is there something I can do to fix this? The socket is sprung loaded and if I were to use it the way described above I run the risk of the card flying out and as small as it is I'd never find it.

Thanks

I read that but it didn't talk about the issue stated in this thread. It says RB will support up 32GB MicroSDHC cards. I'm using a 4GB MicroSDHC card. According to that info there shouldn't be a problem but there is.

Try describing more thoroughly what happens. We can't help you without more information, and you're the only person reporting this problem.

If you'd read the whole page or even just searched it for "micro" you would have found this:

I'm having USB Connection/Charging Problems, help?
If you have a microSD card in your player you must either remove the card on USB plug-in (you can insert it after connecting to write data to the card as long as it's not a SDHC) or boot the original firmware manually first and then connect to USB.

---

Extra 1:  This won't be an issue when USB support is implemented.
Extra 2:  Are you sure the same thing doesn't happen with the regular microSD card?

I read that but it doesn't apply to my issue. My issue...repeated...is the device will not boot into RB with a 4GB MicroSDHC card plugged into the device, not plugged into the USB port of a computer.

As stated in the first post, the Sansa e250 won't boot into RB with a 4GB MicroDSHC card plugged into the device. It tries to load but freezes at about half of the screen shown. I have to eject the card, boot into RB and then plug the card back in for it to be used by RB.

Wow, my bad.  Having a crap day.  Apologies, and sorry I can't help (...maybe formatting the card will clear the issue).

Okay, I said "more thoroughly" because you didn't provide much information above. The proper response to me asking for more information is not to repeat the information I've already read. Maybe try telling us what it actually says, perhaps?

Frankly, why would I ask you for more information if what you've given me is enough?

It's no problem, we all have them from time to time. :) I try formatting the card again and see. It may well be an issue with the brand of card. I'll try a Sandisk 8GB. This 4GB is a Kingston.

how long ago did you install the rockbox bootloader? if it was months ago its possible you installed one between getting the sd slot working and getting sdhc support in which would explain why it can mount the chip once rockbox loads.

quickest way to check is just grab sansapatcher or rbutil off the wiki and install the latest bootloader.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.

I'm sorry, I just don't know what else to give. It won't boot. The screen is half of the normal bootup screen. The black boot up screen that occurs in a normal bootup is about half of that. If I can read the incredibly small text I'll try to relate what the words are.

Just to be sure, because you made comments in another thread that indicated you didn't use the official installation method:  How did you install Rockbox?

Thanks for all the efforts to help. Here's an update and some other info:

The website I used to install RB is here and I installed RB on my e250 about 4 days ago:

http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=e200&thread.id=9721

This is a picture of the device screen while it is trying to boot into RB with the memory card plugged in:
