Ipod Integration into Car Stereo
« on: February 20, 2008, 10:08:53 AM »
Hi,

I am deciding whether or not I opt to use Rockbox for a specific need and was hoping someone could help.  I'd like to use my ipod as the primary source of music for a 2008 Infiniti G35 which has a very good ipod integration.  The only thing I don't like is that it has no direct search function within the Artist menu of the ipod so you have to page down through long lists of artists names. Since the ipod firmware doesn't allow you to group Artists by letters I was thinking of using Rockbox (which I understand can be modified to do what I want).  My question is if I use Rockbox, will the Infiiniti still be able to "Recognize" my ipod.  The connection from the ipod to the Infiniti is through the dock connector in the ipod into something similar in the Infiniti.

Thanks for the help

Here's a wiki page that summarizes what we know about which accessories do and don't work with Rockbox:

If you do test Rockbox with your Infinity system, please considering updating the wiki page to include your results.

Also, last time I checked, when you have a long list in the apple firmware you can accelerate real quickly to make the screen darken and letter overlays show up, allowing you to slow down and jump to a specific letter. It's actually pretty damn smooth.
