Newby having a few problems with MPEG Plugin, iPod 5G
« on: February 20, 2008, 09:58:38 AM »
I've put some MPEGs onto my iPod, and some of them play (with video slow and normal-speed sound, though I appreciate the whole max frame rate thing) but not in their entirity, while some don't play at all (screen goes black then goes back to file screen). I triple checked the files via the PC and they're all complete.

Any ideas what's wrong?

Also any ideas where to get a gizmo to adjust the frame rate of the videos so they play better?

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I suggest using one of the programs listed on the PluginMpegplayer wiki page to encode.  You can control framerate with mencoder with "-ofps 24" and ffmpeg with "-strict -1 -r 24".

Win FF may be preferable, for ease of use. Try resizing the video to match your screen resolution, and make sure the audio frequency is at 44100 MHz. Also, try reducing your encoding bitrates. Lower bitrates may speed things up, and you might not notice the drop in quality (much ;) ).

For good measure, you might consider using WinFF's MPEG2 preset for ALL of your videos (even if they're already MPEG).
