Tip: how to connect the iAudio X5 to a PC without the subpack

(1/1)

Daan:
Hey,

I found out how to connect the iAudio X5 to a PC without having to use the silly subpack. Without Rockbox and just the original firmware it's done simply by connecting the player through the USB HOST port on the device to your PC. If you dual boot, it's done by booting into the original firmware and then connecting through the USB HOST port. In either case, sometimes Windows XP need to install software and reboot first. On Linux, my computer just connects to it, but then an icon apears on my desktop of an external hard drive, whereas when I connect through the subpack, a icon of an mp3 player appears.

Hope this tip is of use to you.

Regards, Daan

Nice trick, runs good, only by putting a micro-usb-B cable (the one which normally connects to the subpack) in the OTG Port. But unfortunatly it isn´t suitable for daily use, cause this method is very slow (USB OTG limited to USB 1.1 AFAIK) and it surges the battary instead of the USB power (which the player doesnt when connecting through subpack).  But looks good - an Iaudio X5 with directly attached cable.

BTW: Whats the difference between the USB Mode Settings PC (charge) and Hub (no charge) except that in Hub mode the player isnt charged from a connected USB cable when powered off ?

Daan:
I had not noticed the difference in speed, but if the host port is USB 1.1, it is very slow and only good if you don have the subpack with you. If you ever loose he subpack (and don't have a docking station), you cannot recharge the battery, so be careful with that little black thingie! ;-)

As to the USB modes, I don't know the difference between them. It's only now that I've read your post that I know that I have to switch of the player to have it recharge via USB.

Great trick... Wish i knew this when my X5 still worked.

Anyone need a subpack?  My X5 died and I have no use for it.  Also have a silicon skin.

Where do you live? I'd really like another subpack (you never know...) ;)
