you mean to tell me that it deliberately drops into a mode where i have to hard reset (UL hold on power) and restart EVERY time it does so? i think its hanging, especially because i lose ALL CONTROL over the player, backlight remains on (even when programmed to turn off) and the scroll wheel light stays on... and these are not signs of a system hang? really?
That's exactly what mine does when I plug it in while in the RB mode. It's normal and acceptable for what RB offers. I have my RB install set to secondary so I don't have to boot into OEM when I want to plug it in...unless I'm using it at the time, of course.

if you set RB as primary during installation, hold the center button while turning the player on. If RB is set to secondary, you don't need to hold anything, just turn the player on.
I believe there is an "Uninstall" feature in the drive root. Just boot into OEM, plug in and find the Uninstall icon.
I don't see any relevance between that post and this prob, I did not use any other sites distribution site, everything is from RB.org
