Some questions with 4Gen Grayscale 20GB iPod
Burillo:
note - i DID read the manual and tried all the settings with no luck on my issues.
When i was using original firmware i was frustrated with it's lack of features which i later found in rockbox, but there are two features i miss in the rockbox.
The first one is sleep mode. Rockbox seems to be capable only of shutting down iPod and when i start it again - it takes forever to boot... Well, not forever, but another 7-8 seconds, which is extremely annoying... Is it something wrong with my installation or it's just the design?
And the second one is backlight. I was using my iPod without backlight but when i needed it - i just press-and-hold the Menu button and backlight turned on. Is it possible with Rockbox?
Burillo:
also it would be really nice feature to exclude scroller from activating backlight... and the most useful would be controlling backlight by hand - without any timeouts...

Please do not double post. This is in the forum guidelines:

To answer your questions:
1) This is the way Rockbox is designed. Most of the other devices that Rockbox runs on are meant to be shut off. Apple's design was to just "sleep" the iPod instead.
2) I simply have my backlight set to come on whenever I touch my finger to the wheel. There's an option to have a button press merely enable the backlight. Try playing with the settings until you get something that works. We encourage exploration of Rockbox. ;)
Burillo:
i'm sorry for the doublepost, i usually visit forums that automatically add a second post to the first one...
Is there going to be a sleep mode for Rockbox?
soap:
Not enough is known at this point in time to add sleep mode to the PortalPlayer based devices (iPods included).
