Boot Image
« on: February 15, 2008, 11:07:12 PM »
I finally got around to putting Rockbox on my iPod Video earlier this week. I managed to get it, a theme and a few other things installed. My only question is how would I go about changing the boot image? I did a quick search for it and got a few hits but most of it was kinda over my head or not to helpful in general. So cna anyone tell me a dumbed down easy way to do it?

thanks in advance.

There's no easy way to do this.  You can modify the code yourself or try and use Logo Swapper (more info here: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/LogoSwapper).

If you compile your own build I can give you step by step directions.

They won't properly fit your specific player but I'm always interested in other's work so maybe it will entice someone else to post ther own bootsplash's.

Actually there might be a pretty easy way to do that. I'm using an unsupported build for iPod video (tdtookes's) but it should be the same in the official build. Put the .bmp file in your players root (outside .rockbox) and call it splash.bmp . If the official build has that option, you'll find in the display settings a "configure splash image" option, set it to "on" or other option different than "off".

Another way to do that is to browse through your player's files (menu, files, etc.) until you find the .bmp you want. Keep the select button pressed until a menu appears, and there the option "set as splash image"

This is not an option in the official build. Seriously, don't post suggestions for features that aren't in the official build. If you can't be bothered to test first, don't post.

Off topic....
In the now playing screen, I changed the test size adn it moved the text downa dn to the left, is there anyway to fix the alignment of it?

OK, I totally agree, I'm sorry about not testing in the official build first, that is confusing. I just wanted to give an option for someone who really wants to change the splash image.

Now, in the future when you feel confortable with rockbox in general using the official build, if some day you want to try tdtooke's underground build, changing the splash image is as I described (the "configure splash screen" is really in the theme settings menu)

But remember that all unsupported builds are unsupported.  Let's please keep the discussion here to the official build.
