I'm not sure if by "free doom" you actually mean you've installed FreeDoom, or you've just chanced upon that term..

Anywho, one more for good luck: http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch9.html#x12-1360009.1.5

If you still have problems, post back saying exactly what you did, and exactly what happened.

You have now started three threads on items that are all answered in the manual.

You have broken a number of forum guidelines.

Before posting again, please read the manual and the posting guidelines.

take the folder named doom,(inside make sure you have the following:
themes
doomf.wad
tranmap
default.dfg
rockdoom.wad
next just drag the folder onto the rockbox folder under your player under my computer
that is how i got it to work

No, the folder is not named rockbox. It's .rockbox; note the . at the beginning; that's very important!

I have been playing doom and have beaten the game so now i have been looking for other doom WADs to play. None of the WADs i've downloaded have worked. I made the addons directory F:\.rockbox\doom\addons and placed the extracted WAD files in there. when i go to play them it says missing patch about 400 times and then says R_InitTexures: 461 errors. and when i go to play some of the other WADs i select the one i want to play and i then go "Play Game" and it just gets out of doom altogether. Why arent they working and how can i get them to?

P.S. I have an iPod nano 1st gen. and have been downloading WADs from http://www.doomworld.com/10years/bestwads/

Doomworld is a pretty good site, but many of the addon wads don't work too well with Rockdoom. Try looking for wads that work with Prboom (the doom port that is Rockdoom) if it works in prBoom, it should work in Rockdoom ('least, I think so. I've wanted to see if it works, but my bro won't let me download any more doom ports, so I've been using good 'ol Trial-and-error for finding working addon wads). just look around, there are some good ones. if you are looking for some new mods to try, a few I suggest is WolfenDoom, Hacx DC, and the Counter-Strike Mod

when i go to play them it says missing patch about 400 times and then says R_InitTexures: 461 errors.

That's because custom WADs are nothing but patches : they require either the full version of Doom 1 or Doom 2 to work.

you have to put them in the "/.rockbox/doom/addons/" folder and you need the official "DOOM.WAD" and "DOOM2.WAD" files in the "/.rockbox/doom/" folder

when you start rockdoom, select "Doom Registered" in the Game options and select one of your custom WADs in the Addons options, then start the game.

if it doesn't work, then it's either because that specific  custom WAD is based on Doom 2 instead of Doom Registered (then, go back in the Game options), or because it's broken (which is not rare).

My favorite custom WAD is called "original.wad", and it turns Doom into Wolfenstein 3D (it's not a fake : it's almost like the original game, with the original maps, but with the doom 3d engine).

Because wolfenstein 3d is now open source, i think i can distribute this WAD legally (it's hard to find on google), so here it is : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JZV5AXY2

p.s. :  you can get "DOOM.WAD" and "DOOM2.WAD" here : http://www.idsoftware.com/store/index.php?view=doom&page=2

EDIT : the custom WADs that require Doom 2 to work may also work with Freedoom, especially when they are very different from the original game (for example, the Wolfenstein mod), but there are sometimes some texture glitches. Also, it is slightly different graphically.
