I have formatted and reset it through iTunes, and then reinstalled rockbox to try and get round this issue, and still cannot figure out the cause.
"Building database... 452 found (Prev to return)"
That is the exact message displayed. For the full 7-8 hours of battery life.
The key thing to bear in mind here is that I formatted the thing. Where are these 452 files it ceaselessly fails to build?
The infuriating thing is that this bug appeared at total random - no new music was introduced, no more recent build... Just sudden loss of music playing function. So whilst I can still play doom, I can't use it as a music player.
I was using release 16180, and have upgraded to 16309 to try and get round this issue.
*UPDATE*
Upon upgrading to 16403 (again, I must stress, after a full format/reset-through-itunes/install-latest-version method), the database builder now hangs at 438 items found. Is this the number of files in the .rockbox directory after the update? And if so, why is it trying to build them into the database?
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
*UPDATED UPDATE*
Apparently it didn't much like having no music to build into a database, so stuck itself into a loop. With 4 tracks, it built and committed absolutely fine.
A big thanks to the Rockbox community for all their help... *sarcasm*
But on a more genuine note, thanks very much for creating an awesome alternative to the non-Vorbis friendly iPod setup. And you might want to iron out that tiny bug with the loop in case a muppet like me does it again...
