Lost pause, resume functionality
« on: February 09, 2008, 09:17:35 AM »
I have a Sansa e260. I installed Rockbox back in December and was VERY happy with it. Then I upgraded to the latest build in January. I noticed that I could no longer pause songs, and power off/on would not resume.

I upgraded again today (2/9) and same deal. No pause, no resume. I can't believe that the developers would remove this nice functionality.

Any advice? I've searched this forum and did come across some postings stating there were now problems with resume and to use an unsupported build, but I don't know. Is this true? Is pause and resume really broken after having worked?

1.  What button are you using to try to pause?  What happens when you do so?

2.  What is your Start Screen setting?

Under System all I have is

Rockbox Info
Version
Running Time
Sleep Timer
Debug (Keep Out)

I do not have a Start Screen option

Also, the next song and previous song buttons don't work either. Basically all I can do is start a song and leave it. And when I start up Rockbox I get "database not ready" every time.

I try to pause songs by pressing the top button >||

I enjoyed Rockbox for the month or two that it worked. All I did was unzip a build into the device and rebooted and it hasn't worked since then. I'm upset, and I'm afraid I'm going to have to go back to the original Sansa software.

I knew I should never have upgraded the Rockbox.

Pause works fine on the current build, there is clearly a problem with your setup.  Why on earth would  we remove pause?

Could you try removing the .rockbox folder and re-extracting it again?

I re-initialized the database which took care of the "database not ready problem". I also got the resume song feature to work. But the buttons while the music is playing do not work. I can not pause, go to the start or go to the next. If I hold down the >|| it fast forwards through the song. That is all I have.

I will take your advice and get rid of .rockbox and re-install. I couldn't believe it either that something as basic as pause would be broken.

If I get it working again, I'll leave it alone. It's not worth it to upgrade.

Re-installing everything in .rockbox did the trick. I also re-downloaded the theme I use. Perhaps there was a conflict between the latest rockbox and the theme I was using. I guess it is a good idea to also re-download the theme whenever you upgrade rockbox. Everything is working OK now. Thanks!

No, the theme should not affect it.  My guess is that when you updated last time the extraction was not correct, and thus you ended up with some new parts and some old parts.

P.S. Please do not double post.

Actually, it sounds like he'd enabled Party Mode.

Ah yes, that would do it.  I always forget about that setting.
