Maybe between 10 and 20 people?

Guys, start marking yourselves as "yay" or "nay" if you've decided you're coming once and for all.

With that, I may not be a dev (yet!), but I mark myself "yay". I'll bring my Dell DJ and Rio Karma so maybe we can do something with them, plus my iPods, Archos, and Sansa c240... plus whatever else I get before then! ;)

(EDIT) Here's a hotel that's not too expensive and may be able to accommodate a few traveling devs:

Chelsea Star Hotel, NYC

Yeah, that crossed my mind  :D  Then in seriousness I thought of other possibilities too such as webcams which I guess could be referred to as beamers.

So which was it - projector or webcam (or BMW)?

I'd say a webcam isn't critical as it could easily be brought. And "broadcasting" the event really isn't the top-prio in my mind, just mostly an additional amusement.

A projector would be nice, but there too I'm not sure it is mandatory.

My list of must-haves:

  • a room that fits 10-20 people (possibly more)
  • network connection
  • hotels/rooms not too far away
  • food availability

Don't ask why, but I had a look at this document:
http://help.cbp.gov/cgi-bin/customs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=190&p_created=1043364937&p_sid=XwVrM2Yi&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD01ODEsNTgxJnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1

Seems bringing beer will be restricted :/

My offer to host in Gent (Belgium) is still open...
A 40 minute train drive (direct) from Brussels international airport, friendly country and customs, not a chance of getting arrested when you bring a few bottles of beer ;)

There are some hotels that are not too expensive, good food and drinks are available...

petur, not to fear! If you can't bring the beer, you can get them here in New York.

Besides, at least you can rest assured knowing that the beer will be fresh and cold! (and yes, you can buy Chimay here in NYC! ;))

Works for me, that is a short train ride :)

However, contrary to what my ego is telling me, I am not an essential person here!

I'm sure the choice of beers here is about 100:1 - having chimay in the shops doesn't mean a thing. :p

What's the price for a 75cl bottle of Chimay in NY anyway?

I get 1.59 pint bottles for $7.99-$8.99 USD, depending on the store and label.

Hah, my maths is fine, it is my typing that is suspect.

That should of course be 750 ml.

Okay, I think I'm now in favor of a European location AND a US one:

So, who are the contenders willing to actually organize this?

It seems we have Brussels (Gent really) Belgium and Berlin Germany as the suggestions?

Do you (Petur and the Arnolds) have any particular dates more suitable if you'd do it?

Anyone with suggestions on how to settle which place to go with?

Similar on the US side. There seems to be NYC and some "west coast city" mention as alternatives. Can you who can consider organizing this present dates and more specific locations to give us something to talk around?

I would like to get down to specific dates and places at least for a devcon that will take place in the beginning of the northern hemisphere's summer (ie in June).
