How to stop Rockbox from frying my H140?
« on: February 08, 2008, 07:15:01 AM »
After installing 3 different builds this week to try to solve my old problem with Rockbox skipping and freezing when transitioning from .ogg files to .mp3 http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=14708.0 my H140 has now the funny behavior of spinning non-stop the hard drive. It keeps buffering or something similar for more than one hour and consumes the whole battery. I read some similar topics with recent builds on different players but I wanted to know if there is any solution for H140. The latest build (today) hasn't solved the problem at all. What should I do?  ???

I've merged your new thread with your old one.  Please do not start multiple threads on the same topic.

Also, please specify which builds you have tried using build numbers, and not by saying "the latest build."

I posted separately because it is a new issue even though the older one is still unresolved.
I installed just 2 hours ago the latest daily build r16246 and also did the same with yesterday's and Wednesday's.
And my hard drive is still spinning and very hot for the last 2 hours...

Sorry, I misread your initial post.  I've split this back out into a separate topic.

Should I delete some files like in some similar cases?

maybe you have issues with the hard disc? I'd run chkdsk /f on the drive. If it's something else it won't hurt.

Are you using the datavase? You might try deleting your database files in the .rockbox folder, and recreating the database. You should do this while connected to power.

I had some issues when I added a few new music files, and this seemed to fix it.

All the files with extension .tcd in the .rockbox folder are database files.

So the procedure is to go to Database and delete the .tcd files through Explorer when connected... I will give it a try.

This issue looks very much like FS#8260 or FS#8397. You could try the patch I posted on FS#8260, as it could improve things. Not using the DB should help too.

Thanks NicolasP. Is that patch for Ipod only or any other player? How to install it? Sorry if I sound dumb. And how to stop DB from working?
