id3 v2.4 replaygain
Lear:
I was a bit unclear; Rockbox does read the Foobar replaygain values, but the track gain value is then - incorrectly - reset to zero, because Rockbox doesn't know what to do with the single RVA2 value (it contains no indication if it is track or album gain).
You could ask the Play developer to write RVA2 tags just like Quod Libet does, as described here: http://www.sacredchao.net/quodlibet/wiki/Specs/ID3
I'll fix Rockbox so that it ignores the "bad" RVA2 value, as intended.

Just an update (for future os x people wanting replaygain scans!!), i asked the developer of play, he added the other rva2 frame string, but didnt work... I don't quite know how to read the rva2 tags on my computer... Basically, does anyone know the diff between how foobar and play are writing these tags? And how rockbox is reading them? It is reading foobar's without problem, but only the album in Play.
Thank you all or your help!
Lear:
The reason the recent changes in Play didn't work in Rockbox is that the ID strings (for the RVA2 frames) were set to "replaygain_track_gain" and "replaygain_album_gain", not "album" and "track" (as mentioned in the document I referred to). Also, RVA2 frames supports peak values, but they are not written by Play.
Foobar just writes TXXX frames, whereas Play writes TXXX and RVA2 frame(s). Rockbox supports both, but doesn't handle the Play RVA2 frames right. Because the RVA2 frame(s) comes after the TXXX frames, you get the problem.

Lear, thank you for clarifying! I submitted final requests to the developer of Play, we'll see what happens. We may finally have a fully functioning replaygain writer for OS X!!! woohoo!!
