Details of options when selecting option settings
Pileot:
This isnt a huge concept...
For the many various options rockbox has there is usually a large amount of open space at the bottom of the widow... So why not put a brief description of what the options do so you dont need to keep refering back to the wiki to see what the things do...
For instance... When adding music, i know i need to refresh the database, but do i want to auto updte, initialize now, or update now? well if the bottom of the screen sad what the highlighted option did there would be less guessing... and less noobs asking the same questions...
Also, i have found it very hard to find the video playback info for the ipod 5.5g... i know its on the wiki somewhere, but every time i go looking for it it takes an hour to find because i cant remember the exact words to search,,, so if there could be a link put somewhere obvious, that would help.
Another thing... when rockbox features are added or things are tweaked, i find i hard to know should i update RB... is the update somthing i want? Im not the most technical person in the world, i dont always understand the technical mumbo jumbo saing what was updated today... Is there a place that has the updates for, say, the last month written out in easy to understand words for us non geeks?
Lastly, i have noticed theres a "charge during USB connection" option, but theres no entry for it on the wiki for the ipod 5.5g... can anyone assist with this?
*edit*
Oh remembered a few other things...
How can i set a rating for my songs? I noticed theres an option to sort the music by rating, but everything is set to 0
Is there a way i can delete songs without plugging into a computer?
^While a song is playing, hold select. in the context menu you can delete the song
I just found the database.ignore / database.unignore ability, it rocks.... It would be helpfull if there was a place that listed all the little things like that that make rockbox that much more easier to work with...

There's only a large amount of open space on devices with large screens. The majority of Rockbox targets don't have large screens, so there's no space to do this.

Which info do you mean ? Also, once you've found it, why not use the "Bookmark" feature of your browser - that's kind of what it's there for ?

If you don't understand what an update does, then you probably don't want it - just stick to builds which contain things you *do* understand, and you'll be fine. Otherwise you could follow the MajorChanges[/wiki] page.

It doesn't really apply to the 5.5G - holding down the "Menu" button when you plug in a USB cable is all you need to do for this to happen.

You need to enable "Gather run time data". Once you have done so, a Rating option will show up in the WPS context menu to allow you set the rating for each song. This is covered in the manual.

Yes - that's also covered in the manual.

There is - it's called the manual - although I don't think this feature has quite made it in there yet - we're hoping to address that shortly.

I have been through the manual several times looking for answers as to what the different options do... and i have yet to find where it talks about deleting songs on the fly..
As to bookmarking... Its not that easy when you change computers often. And im talking about the mpg player plugin (or whatever its called) that allows video playback.
Everyone always says check the manual check the manual... well i have checked the manual over and over, and its not answering my questions. If i come here asking about it the least you could do is link me to the page its described in the manual... that way i can read it for myself...
And in searching yesterday i was looking at playlists.. and was unable to get the screen that would let you insert songs into the playlist... All i could get is the save / load playlist screen. Any suggestions (other than "check the manual") ?

Sorry, couldn't resist - but If I understand you correctly, the manual explains this. Have a look at http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch4.html#x7-410004.1.2 and http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch4.html#x7-700004.4.3
