Ipod crash at update (now no boot logo, no drive spinning, no nothing)
« on: February 06, 2008, 11:11:36 AM »
My windows Ipod 5g crash in the iTune update process.  At crash time the Bootlogo was on with a stuck progress bar.  I wait for a while and try to reset it.

Now nothing... no drive spinning, no boot logo, no back lite...  I charge it 1+ hour with a wall brick and still same.

Is it brick ? Is it unbrickable ?

The only time an iPod is brickable is the time you've just described, and the only way to do it, is to do what you've done.

Once you've broken them like this, you can only :

a) Return it to apple and hope they'll send you a new one
b) Throw it away and buy a new one.

Or...

c) Use it as a really stylish doorstop or paperweight. ;)

It's a white one so it really fit as a paper weight  >:(

No known procedure to flash it with JTAG / Serial or any other "bare metal" restore procedure ?

btw I have not done some stupid thing.  Update it with iTune, progress stuck at 50%, wait ~5 minutes then unplug/reset.

No, that's not a stupid thing. That's a VERY stupid thing.  ;)

The iPod firmware explicitly tells you "DO NOT DISCONNECT" when it's attached to your PC. So please take heed of what it's telling you.
