i know i had a bit of trouble working things out when I first started, but the name of that function is about as literal as one can get.  i'll try to expand it for you:

When you place your digital music player in your and and decide to play some music, you may have noticed that the after a short time (usually a time nominated by the user) the screen is dimmed fully.  If you would like the screen to light up like Guy Fawkes day, then you need to push one of the buttons on the music player.  The only problem here is that there buttons are designed to do something: play makes the music play, pause makes it pause and shut down makes the player turn off completely (now that's handy!).  When you choose the first button press enable backlight funbtion, instead of pause making it pause, it will make the light come on.  This way you have light and no paused music!  This is just an example, as any button will bring on the backlight!  I hope this helped to illustrate the point.

Unfortunately there is 3 mins I cannot ever have back.  Unless maybe I skip a cigarette today.
