Music on SD card SANSA
« on: February 05, 2008, 01:26:05 PM »
I have a Sansa e250 and also a 4gb micro SD card.  Sometimes the music on the card shows up under that database and sometimes it doesn't.  Anyone have any idea how to get the music on the SD card to show up on the database menu, or at least a place where I can play the music on the SD card and the music on the players memory in one place??

Thanks

You're saying that the database will sometimes not show entries for files that are on the SD card?  Does the database list change only at boot time or randomly each time you enter it?  Do you have auto-update turned on?  Can you still navigate to the files via the file browser?

The list only changes when I boot.  I have auto update on right now, but i've had it off until recently, i'm just trying to figure out what configuration works.

After I posted this I turned on the player and I couldn't even navigate to the files under the file browser, but I took the card out and put it back in and then could see the "micro sd" then my player froze when I clicked on it.  I then restarted and was able to get to the files through the browser.

Funny thing is sometimes I can see all of the files in the database, then sometimes half and half but most of the time just the ones on the players memory.  I would just like all of the songs to show up under database and be able to play them from there.

What revision of the firmware are you using?  Can you then update to a current build and verify that this still happens?  You might also try clearing your settings.

I think the root of this is some inconsistency in Rockbox being able to see the SD card.  I don't have an SD card in mine, but I manually deleted a directory from my Sansa and verified that the database still lists it even if the files are not physically present so long as auto-update is turned off.  I don't think the database is the important factor here. . .

It almost sounds like a poor connection with the way that taking the card out and re-inserting it seems to help.  Are the contacts dirty (either card or Sansa)?  I would try carefully cleaning the contacts with a cotton swab and some alcohol and see if that improves the situation.

Version: r15675-071118

build date 2006.11.3

Build # - 32.10

How do I reset all settings?  Also, even if it is the contacts for the sporadic behavior, why don't all of my songs show up in database mode?

what's that build date from?  The version you're using was built on 2007-11-18.

Please try with a current build also as the guidelines require.

I am guessing that at boot time the database will strip away entries that it can't find due to auto-update being turned on.  Is this an incorrect assumption?

You can reset the settings from the Manage Settings menu or by holding REC while you boot the Sansa.

I tried resetting settings, which didn't work.  I'll try a new build later on tonight, do I have to uninstall and reinstall to get a new build on my player?

Thanks again

No, just unzip the archive directly onto your player and overwrite the existing files.

Or any of the other unzipping programs as well (such as the open source 7zip)...

Thanks for the help everyone.  Updating the firmware of Rockbox fixed my problem with the micro SD card not being seen all the time.  Now it works great!!

The only thing I don't like about this new version is that when I resume playback on startup (my default start screen) it starts the song I was on over and not in the middle where the song play left off.  Just a minor complaint though.

Thanks again
