Ignore certain words such as "The" when sorting the database
BrianT:
Hello, I am currious if there is a way for the database to ignore or sort out the word "the" when viewing artists or songs in alphabetical order, however display the artist or song title as is. For example, currently an artist such as "The Doobie Bros." would be sorted under the database with any other artists that start with "T." The way it should be sorted is with other artists starting with "D," thus being viewed as "The Doobie Bros." but being sorted as if it were just "Doobie Bros." In other words, I am curious if rockbox can sort the database like the apple Ipod firmware does. Also take a look at my screenshots showing what I mean. Oh, and just in case you were wondering, I am running an Ipod Nano 4GB with the latest rockbox build. Thank you.

The ever wonderful Ig Nobel prize(http://www.improbable.com/) for Literature in 2007 was awarded to Glenda Browne for "The Definite Article: Acknowledging 'The' in Index Entries," maybe something can be gleaned by studying the article (ouch ;-) http://www.theindexer.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=101&Itemid=63
But seriously, this is a problem waiting for a good solution, and one that can cope with all the languages that Rockbox does...

There's actually a WIP patch of a "good" solution in the tracker, it's just a patch that needs someone to pick it up and finish it.
BrianT:
Two Things,
First... Dang, So it looks like this is not an easy fix... oh well. Except for the patch, however. I guess I'll try the work in progress one, but I sure wish it were more complete. Oh and by the way, could someone post a link to it. I can't seem to find it. One more thing though, have any of you tried the patch yet? Just currious. Also, how stable would you say this patch is, and what else needs to be improved in it?

Second... Wow, I just have to say this, but I can't believe that someone won a noble prize for this...
