E250 and E250R mixed up by SanDisk
« on: February 02, 2008, 12:03:59 PM »
Just received my E250 (refurbished) and on the backside it says Sansa Rhapsody and e250R. That's not a real problem because rockbox should run on both but if I read the manual it says:
Before installing you should verify that you have a Rhapsody model. If the USB options on your player are "MSC" and "MTP" it's non-R, if they're "Rhapsody" and "Plays for Sure" then it's R.

Guess what: my USB menue has the options  "MSC" and "MTP" which according to the manual makes it a non-R.... What is it now?
- Can I just try to load the non-R patch and if it doesn't work try the "R" or will this eventually screw it up?
- Is there another way to figure out what it really is???

Under info it has version 01.02.18A but I can't figure out how to find the firmware version.....

Any help is highly appreciated as I really want it to run rockbox with all the nice additional features and the ability to use ogg files instead of MP3.

It is a vanilla. Load it. And on the super off-chance it fails, it can easily be fixed.

Sansa has a habit of switching cases/packaging/you name it between models.  You can't rely on anything written on it, just the actual player.

Thanks guys for the immediate response! I'll go ahead and try it.... Guess I was lucky that buy.com shipped me a refurbished vanilla model for $40....... After reading all the other threads it looks to me that SanDisk doesn't know what they are doing or they just slap things back together when they get a return (or both,  ::) )

I too bought a improperly labeled e250. I bought it refurbbed and it says rhapsody on the back plate but it a vanilla e250. So after following the e250R I was bricked. After unbricking and installing following the correct directions everything works beautifully.

So maybe we can throw up a warning in the e250R install instructions to check the version first.
