Ipod Photo 60 Gb not recognized & booting problems

(1/3) > >>

pathe:
When my iPod Photo 60Gb boots,
it displays this screen :
--- Code: ---Rockbox boot loader
Version: 20060131-0937
IPOD version: 0x00060000
TOSHIBA MK6006GAH
Partition 1: 0x0B 57192 MB
Model : ipco
Checksum: 31AAC0F
Sum: 31AAC0F
Rockbox loaded.
--- End code ---
... and it stops.

It's not recognized on the usb bus,
and the command cat /proc/partitions doesn't display anything about the iPod.

If I hold the Menu + Select commands,
it shows a battery after a while.
A few minutes later, it boots again and goes back to the former screen.

This phenomenon began after loading a new rockbox version ( a few months ago - I had no time to report about it before).
To me, it appears that the bootloader doesn't work until its end.
And I'm afraid of this mention :
--- Code: ---...
Partition 1: 0x0B 57192 MB
...
--- End code ---

I would be grateful to anyone that might help.

PS : I apologize for my english.
I'm a debian user.

DoesItMatter:
Hopefully you've backed up all the music or whatever you had on the IPod.

What I would suggest, for easiest fix, is try to get ITunes, maybe thru Wine
or some other emulator, and use that to restore the IPod to default.

Or if you have another computer, or a friend with a windows machine, install itunes on it, re-do your ipod from scratch, re-load a new bootloader and fresh version of Rockbox, then you should be set.

There are other instruction for manually re-doing the boot table, etc in other posts, and those should work also.

Using ITunes to restore it and then re-doing the bootloader and new rockbox thru a windows PC is probably the quickest and easiest fix though.

Unfortunately, I don't have any access to another PC or Mac.
As I said, I'm a debian user, and I only know free software users.
More of this, my opinion is that a free software problem should only be fixed without any help from non-free softwares.

So I think I'm going to read other posts about re-doing boot tables and so on.
But the thing is my ipod isn't recognized by the system : so how can I perform any action on it ? Like writing a new partition table ?

I anyone knows how to fix my problem without using non-free software, please tell me about it : I would be very grateful.

Try this process - it will wipe the ipod - but uses freely available stuff

Thank you for the info !
I already knew this very useful page,
as I used it before for my first rockbox installation.

The thing is :
--- Code: ---# mount /mnt/ipod
mount: special device /dev/sdb does not exist
--- End code ---
So I can't perform the recommended action:
--- Code: ---# dd if=mbr-xxxx.bin of=/dev/sdb
--- End code ---

Any idea ?
