ipod not recognized

when i try to put firmware on my ipod or install rockbox or ipl.  the program says it cant find the ipod and tells me to close anything using it like itunes.

I never have anything else running that used my ipod.

through cmd prompt or batch files i could install ipl and rockbox but the regular installers could never find it only batch file installers could.

I don't understand your post.  What program, what batch scripts, what regular installers?  I'm pretty well renowned in certain circles for having the mystic powers of a wizard crossed with a unicorn, but I'm afraid even my arcane majesty can't fathom what you have done or are trying to do.

I take it you are following the rockbox manual.  What steps are you having trouble with?

ok video 5.5g

ipl, rockbox installer, and ipw can't do anything to it.

using ipw it can see theres an ipod and i dont have any programs or processes open that use the ipod but


trying to install linux ..



i tried just restarting my computer and nothing opened that used my ipod.


but when its a batch.. it works
so using this style i got linux and rockbox on




i need to know what i'm doing wrong, and why they cant access my ipod

Okay, the only program there that belongs to us is iPodpatcher. So why are you asking here if OUR program is the one that works?

you didnt read well enough im not asking that.
i stated that only batch files can find my ipod.
just thought maybe you guys might know the problem

iPodPatcher is not a batch file. It's a program. Notice that ".exe" on the end of it?

What did I miss? This is the "Rockbox" forum, are you asking about *our* software, or programs like iPodWizard and the iPodLinux installer that don't belong to us and should not be asked about here?

If you are asking about our software, describe exactly what program of ours you're trying to use, what version number it is, and what error message OUR program is giving you.

And from the look of the screen shot it seems that the iPodPatcher program is working perfectly and has found the iPod.  Ask whoever wrote the other programs why they don't work.

It's different here because we require that people read our posting guidelines before posting.  Had you done so, you would realize that the questions you are asking are beyond the scope of this forum.  Our guidelines state:

We are happy to help you with our software, but from the screen shots you've posted, it appears that our software (ipodpatcher) is working fine and that you are having difficulty with software that is not Rockbox-related.  We do not provide support for other people's software in these forums.

Oh, and we have a graphical installer that is called Rockbox Utility and I bet it will find the Ipod (unless you have issues with UAC, which Rockbox Utility should now be able to cope with just fine. Possibly the fixed version hasn't been released as binary yet).
