Rec meter problems on H120 remote
« on: January 31, 2008, 12:44:42 PM »
I just got a remote off Ebay for my H120. My hope was to use it for discrete/convenient recording of concerts. The problem is, the recording level meters don't work on the remote. Everything else seems to work fine, but these are what I need. On the remote, the meters seem locked into a permanent peak hold (on the H120, the meters work fine). In other words, the levels move up to the peak, then just lock. They'll move up again for a higher peak, but they never move down.

This happened with the 1/23/08 Rockbox build, then I just updated to today's build. It makes no difference. Help!!!

Thanks in advance.

strange, this cannot be a hardware problem, and last time I checked my h380 they worked fine.

Thanks for the reply, Peteur. The strange thing is, everything else works perfectly with the remote. Would anyone who has an H1xx and a remote be so kind as to test the rec meters with it?  I need to figure out if my remote is bad or it's something else.

Thanks.

I just checked on my h140 with r16195, and it is a little odd.  The remote peakmeters do go back down, but a lot more slowly than the main unit.  They seem to take a second or two more.

a second or two????

I agree that the remote peakmeters don't move as fast as on the main display, but they never lag more than 500ms here (that is just an estimate - it is probably less).

This is on an h3x0 with LCD remote. AFAIK the LCD remote is the same as the one of the h1x0

Well, I didn't time, but it is very noticeable.  They don't get stuck however.

I appreciate you two checking. I just reformatted that drive and installed the latest Rockbox version again. Made no difference--still permanent peak hold. Oh well, I guess I won't be using the remote for recording. Thanks again.

I have the same problems with new builds.

http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/8514

I have since gone back to older builds on both h1xx and h3xx and both work fine now.  But some of the new features (first button press on remote = backlight) would be great.  My thumb gets sore from using the hold switch so much!

Well, it's pretty much impossible to fix if nobody can track down the problem and provide enough information that someone can find the bug in the code. Currently none of the developers seem to be experiencing it.

Llorean, I don't understand your last post. I think I've done everything in your link, including using the latest build after formating my drive. Bugg100 has filed a bug report. Please let me know what else I can do (I'm afraid I'm not much of a technical person). Thanks.

If nobody's found the bug yet, there's probably not enough information. Especially since it's not happening to other people with the same hardware and software versions, suggesting there's something perhaps different in your settings or other choices.

This is the same problem we speak of.......  If you are in a club, recording, by the time the meters want to recede, another peak has come along keeping the meter black.

The meters did not prev. and currently do not have this new problem with the build in Mmmm's sig file.

I am willing to test, report, photograph, screen cap (is the remote possible?), whatever I am able to help with.  I cannot say when this change happened as I previously used  custom builds for both platforms(above referenced Mmmmm build, and most lately, the Darky build from MisticRiver).  Both of the previous versions are on the respective sites now, I think.  The first time I tried daily build was Jan. 09.

Let me know what we can do, please.  Thank you all for the continued devolpment of Rockbox.

I asked amiconn to check as well (in IRC) and he saw some peakmeter weirdness...
Too bad I had to do other stuff and couldn't follow up with him on his findings.

To be investigated further
