problems with resume playback and general playback issues
gorodnlw:
I've searched the forums and read the manual before posting. so I got a h320 last week, rockboxed with the current build and have been having some issues with playback. first of all I've had a h120 for a year or so using it for flac playback and no issues at all with all the settings exactly the same.
here's what's going on. I am in and out of my car a lot for work so I have to shut the player on and off a bit while listening to a show or album. car mode is not a option as I don't have a lighter adapter. and I don't like the idea of just leaving it paused for an extended period of time b/c of battery life. so I set the start screen to resume playback so when I turn it on it'll start right back where it left off. problem is it's not (320, 120 works just fine)! sometimes it'll start back at the beginning of the track, sometimes the next track, sometimes it will work and pick up where it left off but rarely. I looked around in the settings and read the online manual and couldn't find any reason for this. I enabled bookmarks and that seemed to do the trick, for a few hours anyway. then it began just skipping tracks on normal playback. ie track 06 is finishing and it goes to 08 instead of 07. flacs are tagged using either foobars live show tagger or tag & rename using amazons database etc. the albums were ripped by me with eac and named properly, so it's not an issue with filenames or improper tags.
the only reason I got the 320 is so my wife can use the 120 for flac playback so I never have to burn her disc again ;) so far I'm not pleased. any advice, help etc etc would be great.
oh yea drive was clear when I got it and is not fragmented at all. and it's not on shuffle or replay etc.

My 320 was showing the same problem with recent builds. It was especially irritating with podcasts, since I have to fast forward t where I last was. Which meant I was mentally storing my last place. The trouble with that is I listen on my commute and the "same place" is roughly the same duration each day, with emphasis on the roughly. Let's see, did I break at 34:20, or was that yesterday?
I searched the bug reports and found this: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/8511?histring=resume which seems to match the problem. So I back-leveled to the 18 January build referenced at the end of the comments. It is early times, but it appears to fix the problem for me.
P.Opus:
It doesn't just affect the H320, but also the Sansa E200 series.
I play back exclusively MP3's and use the player much like you do, and I too have the exact same issue. Â About 10% of the time It may actaully resume playback at the proper place. Â But most of the time it either starts at the beginning of the current track or sometimes skips to the next one.
This bug appears to have first appeared with the 16105 build and has yet to be fixed.
Flyspray entry 8511 notes this behavior, and so far it looks to affect Ipods, E200's and H320's, so it is probably a system wide bug.
I added reproduction steps in the comments of Bug 8511, so hopefully someone will look at it.
It does not seem to happen on the 16099 and earlier builds
Lear:
It seems to have been fixed with r16197 (at least based on my limited tests on an e200), so today's (Feb 3) daily build is worth trying.
P.Opus:
Tried with 16207 and it's still broken. Now, the resume will often go to the next track instead of stay at the same track.
I tried with 5 power downs and power ups.
It failed on all 5 attempts.
On three of the attempts, it reset to the beginning of the track, on one of the attempts, it skipped to the next track. and on the final attempt, it skipped to the next Track AND started the next track at the same time stamp that it stopped on the previous track.
Back to 16095.
