Spontaneous gapless playback
(1/1)
mcdevin:
I'm a recent convert to Rockbox and love it with the exception of the lack of gapless support for some of my older MP3 files and Itunes encoded AAC files (the bulk of which my library consists). However, today I was listening to my ipod and noticed that my Itunes AAC songs as well as my old MP3's were playing through gaplessly. I'm running the version 16158 on my 80 gig Ipod video. The odd thing is that last night when I listening to Dark Side of the Moon, I was lamenting those very noticeable skips between songs, but today, voila!--no more gaps. I'm scared to upgrade my firmware again for fear my ipod is experiencing some unforeseen serendipitous glitch. Am I going crazy?
AlexP:
MP3 is not a inherently gapless format. When encoded properly, a header is added that tells the decoder how much of the last frame to skip, thus giving the impression of being gapless. Rockbox supports these tags. If you had a problem previously with properly encoded MP3s not being gapless, there must have been a small bug in rockbox that has now been fixed.
P.S. I have deleted your duplicate post. Please do not create lots of posts on the same topic.
