Creating music on RB
« on: January 24, 2008, 11:08:26 AM »
I know I'm far off on this one, but...
Has anyone yet succeded in finding a way of creating music using the DAP as a sequencer?
There are sequencer progs for zx spectrum, but I doubt that they will work as intended on zxbox using only the available keys etc.
Same goes for RockBoy. There's at least one music creation prog for Gameboy, but it doesn't seem to work with only a few controls.

Any other options?

Any special zx prog I should try?

Am I being silly? I think not! There were ways of composing phone signals directly on the phone since long time. That kind of sequencing would work for me, at least as a start.

There was a sequencer floating around for h120, but it doesn't seem like it was ever put up for inclusion, and I can't find it online anymore I'm afraid.

Edit: Found it here (outdated) http://www.geocities.com/henriksens2710/stepseq.htm

You should have access to the full range of gameboy controls. If there's a sequencer for it, it should be perfectly usabled with properly set up Rockboy.

There is also a (stalled?) work in progress plugin called Beatbox in rockbox svn (you'll have to enable it and build yourself) for midi creation, don't know if it works or even builds though.

LSDJ for Gameboy relies a lot on pressing several combinations of keys for operation.
At least the iRiver H120 can only deliver "ON"+other key, which is not enough to operate LSDJ.
