IPOD 5G - Playlist saving and management
« on: January 24, 2008, 05:24:53 AM »
Question: please direct me to the right topic/posting/thread to answer the following 2 questions

1-Using my IPOD Video 60gb how can I save a playlist without having to use the virtual keyboard but instead saving using same name (by default)?

2-Using my IPOD how can I 'copy' playlists contained in my directories into my playlist catalog (without having to use virtual keyboard!)

Iriver 140 dead  >:(
Ipod  >:(
Ipod with Rockbox  8-)

Same name as what? I'm not clear on what you're asking here

Long select on the playlist file in the file viewer.
Click on copy
Navigate to playlist catalog folder
Long select on anything in there.
Click on paste.

Many thanks for the quick answer. I am honored. really.

Apologies for the 'obvious' questions but i really searched through the 42 pages under 'audio playback and playlists' and used the search fct. I re-phrased question 1 below. You aptly answered question 2 and it works. thanks. BTW Is there a good source of info on playlist management with rockbox (other than the manual)?

Question 1:If I modify an existing playlist using my rockboxed-ipod can i save that modified playlist  keeping the same name? For example I delete a song  in my playlist named Trance2.m3u, can I simply do a save and it will save the file with the name Trance2.m3u or do i need to write (using the difficult-to-use virtual keyboard) and re-type the whole playlist name?

I believe when you hit save it will still take you into the virtual keyboard, but the current filename should already be typed in - so if you don't wish to change the name, just save it without editing the name.

Thanks for reply.

unfortunately when clicking 'save current playlist' it automatically proposes '\dynamic.m3u8'; nothing else (no possibility to scroll down a list or anything). Perhaps if I could simply point to my 'playlist' folder instead of the root?

If the virtual keyboard is suggesting "dynamic.m3u8" then that means you've not loaded an already existing playlist - so it's not the use case you originally presented.

I've just tested with my own pre-created playlist (as your original query stated this what was you wanted to do), and sure enough the virtual keyboard presents me with the original file name.Z
