Ipod Won't Boot after Recent Installation.
« on: January 23, 2008, 10:27:42 PM »
Here's the story: Last Night I used the latest utility to install the latest Rockbox build and Bootloader onto my 4G Grayscale Ipod.

It was working completely fine, I loaded a few songs and made sure everything worked.  Then I plugged it into the wall charger and went to sleep. When I woke up this morning, it was still on and was fully charged. I messed around with it for a bit, and then I shut it down by holding the play button, it shut down fine. I then went back to use it and it just won't turn it on. Any button's I push, if I use the hold switch, nothing is recognized and it just won't turn on at all. No apple sign, no boot loader, no error, no nothing. I left it plugged into the charger for awhile today and tried to turn it on again, nothing. I tried leaving it plugged into the usb on my pc for awhile, again, nothing.

Is there anything I can do to bring this iPod back to life?!

Thanks in advance,
-Nolan

First off, make sure that hold is NOT on. Secondly, try rebooting it by turning hold on, then off, and then holding play and select at the same time for about 15 seconds.

Of course hold wasn't on :P

I tried what you said, no avail, doesn't do anything.

Then do it again, including the hold on then off thing. And hold the buttons longer.
And keep repeating it until it does work. Unless your iPod has actually suffered hardware failure, this should work if you're a bit persistent about it. It may take somewhat surprising long holding down the buttons, and if your fingers wiggle a little, it seems this can sometimes cause it not to work (if they wiggle enough for the scrollwheel to notice, I theorize)

At least on the Ipod Nano you need to hold MENU and SELECT both for aprox 15 seconds to do a reset.

O! My HUGE mistake! It should be menu and select to reboot (play and select is for disk mode)! Very sorry!
